SYNOPSYS
In 17th century’s exotic İstanbul, a young scientist Ahmet has two desires; to find his childhood love, Hanzade, and to fly across İstanbul Bosphorus with artifical wings. He gets help from Franceska, the daughter of Merchant of Venice, in order to reach Hanzade and dechiper Leonardo Da Vinci’s encoded reports on human flights. However, Ottoman’s rules prohibit him to make anatomic researches on human body and scientific studies on aviation since God granted mankind no wings after all. In spite of the low chances, Ahmet has to fly to reach his ultimate goal and save the love of his life.

TREATMENT
Ahmet has got two separate passions since his childhood: Hanzade and to fly… But the grandfather of his childhood sweetheart Hanzade has to flee to Venice hurriedly for his own life beside his families, because he gave an inadequate mental health report for sultan earlier. Young Ahmet throws himself into the sea after the galleon that brings Hanzade and his grandfather away to Venice. Hanzade breaks her leg while trying just to see the boy she loves for the last time. As Francesca, the captain’s daughter, tries to console her, the galleon sails away. The relationship between Ahmet and Hanzade breaks up for then. And we move forward to ten years later time.
Ahmet has become a doctor. He also dreams about to fly like birds. Besides, he gives lectures to his students in his madrasa. He hasn’t got married as he never forgets Hanzade.
Hanzade isn’t married, too. After living in exile in Venice for ten years, she returns to İstanbul. She and Francesca, whom she grew up with and now the daughter of Merchant of Venice is beside her, as well.
One day, an injured messenger pigeon falls on the Ahmet’s work table on a date ten years after their separation. Ahmet falls for Hanzade once again, beginning from exchanging letter via pigeons. He wants to meet and see her.
Ahmet’s best friend Hasan is also a scientist. He is kind of a mad scholar who fantasizes about building the first submarine of the world by using a huge wine barrel or travelling to the moon with gigantic fireworks. Ahmet invites Hanzade to an entertainment which is organized by Hasan where he would try to demonstrate traveling to moon in the presence of Sultan. Hanzade is reluctant to meet with Ahmet but Francesca’s persistence persuades her.
Ahmet draws a miniature of himself on Hasan’s rocket. And the reason of Hanzade’s reluctance against meeting him at the first place comes to light at that very moment. Hanzade has already seen that miniature in her own hand during Ahmet’s search for her. Just then, Ahmet fires the rockets which Hasan is attached with. After a little while, Hasan starts to fall down as the gunpowder burns out. However the primitive parachute with him opens and he crushes down to the sea. When people pull him out of the water, it is seen that his respiratory and circulatory systems are failed. Ahmet begins to apply a rudimental hearth massage technic on him. Only, Pasha who is one of Sultan’s closest men asserts that this man is a demon because he gives the life back which was already taken by Allah and he demands this man to be judged immediately. Hanzade thrills while Ahmet is taken away by the soldiers. Francesca is also excited just as Hanzade and she takes the miniature from her and pushes her gently from behind in order to walk towards Ahmet. And everything happens at this very moment… Hanzade stumbles and the prosthesis on her foot which was implemented when she was a little girl after she broke her leg, stands out. While the crowd laughs at her, Ahmet looks and catches Francesca’s eyes with his drawing in her hands. He reckons her as Hanzade. Hanzade sees their exchanging glances while standing up from the floor. Soldiers imprison Ahmet and Hasan.

Hanzade cannot come out from the effect of abasement. She cannot get out of depression and melancholy. Meanwhile Pasha who helped her grandfather flee to Venice has always wanted to take her into his harem since she was a little girl. Hanzade says that she shall marry Pasha and try not to forget Ahmet by obeying the inevitable.
Ahmet suffers the pangs of love for her. But he lost Hanzade when he found her. Then the messenger pigeon from Hanzade perches on his window when he becomes more desperate. But there is not a letter in claws of bird. Ahmet writes a letter immediately recounts his sleepless nights that pass by thinking of her brown hair, green eyes, his going mad with love and desire to meet the day after. But Francesca was the person who released the bird without informing Hanzade. When the bird turns back, they realized that the expressions of Ahmet are matched with Francesca. Thereupon Hanzade resolves to marriage with Pasha despite of all efforts of Francesca who wants to fix everything.
Francesca goes to the address mentioned in Ahmet’s letter. She explains to him that the one he saw during the demonstration was not Hanzade but Francesca. Ahmet gets confused. Francesca takes Ahmet to Hanzade but Hanzade is decisive. Ahmet leaves there with a great disappointment. Ahmet starts to drink and questions everything that happened while the wedding preparation goes on. He fell for Hanzade when they were exchanging letters but he is now in love with Francesca at first sight. Ahmet is indecision between the love at hearth and love at image. While he lives in such paradox, Francesca visits him and tells him to abduct Hanzade. Of course Hanzade is in love with him but because she feels inferiority complex for her lame foot, she enshrines her love in her heart to forget it.
Ahmet and Francesca plans to abduct Hanzade at the wedding night from the mansion of Pasha near by the Bosphorus. Nobody notices the barrel tied to the food supply boat brings supply to the mansion for wedding night for it is drifting with the boat. This barrel is the primitive submarine which is adapted from a wine barrel and invented by Hasan. Francesca brings Hanzade to the pier of the mansion, Ahmet surfaces by jettison. He opens the cap and Francesca pushes her into the barrel. Nobody sees what happens in seconds but Pasha. While Ahmet closes the cap of the barrel and go under water, an aphrodisiac which Pasha chews it blocked the windpipe of him for shock of it and he smothers. Francesca tells that Hanzade committed suicide by jumping to the sea. Son of Pasha, Kara, and his soldiers don’t believe how she has disappeared immediately. So while they are looking for her with torch on the surface of sea, the lovers make love in wine barrel which is illuminated with sea scrapple and fish scales enter from the scuttles. The only their finding is a Bridal kaftan belongs to Hanzade which was throw by Francesca to consolidate her plans. Kara’s hope for finding Hanzade loses. The air in the barrel is almost consumed away by the morning. They surface and open the cap. While they are breathing the fresh air of the Bosporus they move away to their future happiness in careen barrel.
But they are not getting out of a scrape for happiness. The passion for flying is still consisting.
Their life goes on way for now. While their love goes in full speed, on the other hand they effort to fix her lame foot. Meanwhile, Ahmet goes back to his works of aviation which de had to delay. Some hand writings which was captured by pirates after plundering a ship and brought to Istanbul enchant him. Some man has drown some wings and written technical details and formulas on those handwriting. Hanzade tells that these handwritings belong to a great scientist named as Leonardo da Vinci; he encrypted writings to his notebooks and nobody could decrypt them. While they try to figure out those encrypts, a great chaos begins in Ottoman Policy.
The mother of Sultan Mourad who was enthroned earlier despite his very young age, Kosem Sultan now rules over the government. There are oppositions against being ruled by a woman from community and the army. A requisition for Mourad’s to seize power scales up. When Kosem Sultan feels that her power will be taken from her, she has the comrades of Mourad murdered. But Mourad revolts against his mother instead of obeying her. A rage built-up over years rises in full flood. He imprisons his mother and proclaims martial law all over the state. He starts to hang everyone who disobeys his rules extra judicially. He also forms a guard’s army for himself from his inner circle. Pasha hasn’t died yet, but for his windpipe blockage disorder, he has had a stroke and lost his speech ability and retired. Mourad hires Pasha’s brave son Kara in his closer guarding army.
Ahmet tries to think the ways to decrypt Leonardo’s studies. His closer friend Hasan argues that human cannot fly by flapping like birds, because the anatomy of arms of human is different from birds. Ahmet says they cannot know it since they don’t know anything about human anatomy. Religious rules forbid the scientific examinations over human corpse. So, they decide to work on corpses they steal in order to prove their claims.
On these days, Ottoman Sultan Mourad carries the martial law too far such as forbidding alcohol, coffee and implementing night-time curfew. Streets of Istanbul are filled with hanged men on trees. There are hanging men on their street, too. The village idiot of their neighbor, a homeless man was also hanged. They come across Sultan Mourad who walks out to checks the people personally if they obey the rules or not, while they were stealing a hanged body. Mourad respects to their reason and intrepidness and forgives those two crazy sciencelover men; instead of hang them on trees. He also gives permission to Ahmet to fly from the highest tower of Istanbul by artificial wings. But Kara, the son of Pasha, sees Hanzade who watches them anxiously from a gap on the curtain of their window. The girl who supposed to be dead is at the window belongs to Ahmet. He leaves there without saying anything as Sultan was there.
Hasan and Ahmet are still discussing in the morning; they worked on the body during the night by special permission of Sultan. They don’t notice Hanzade with breakfast tray in her hands since she drops the tray on the floor. While tea is pouring out to the drawings of Leonardo, Hanzade discovers something. The encrypted writings of Leonardo become readable from the reflection on tray. This great scientist has written his writings backward with image of a mirror. They started to change their flight plans under the light of this new data from Leonardo. Meanwhile it’s informed to Hanzade that her grandfather is about to die. Hanzade goes to her grandfather’s house which is located on the other side of Bosporus by a boat. Ahmet will fly on the next day. He works on completing the last preparation on the top of Galata Tower.
Kara tells his father that Sultan has given permission to Ahmet to fly with wings and also examine dead bodies. But he leaves the great surprise to the end. Bride of Pasha, Hanzade is alive and she has become Ahmet’s woman. Pasha has gained his speech ability. He asks Kara to mess up the girl who caused the stroke of his father and kill her in a cruel way. Kara learns that Hanzade has gone to her grandfather’s home at the other side of Bosporus and while he takes her after, Pasha goes to meet with Sultan.
Ahmet completes all the preparations two days before his flight; however he couldn’t finish all of them, and takes a break for the stormy weather on that day. He leaves his new wings which are created by inspiring from drawings of Leonardo, on the terrace of Galata Tower and comes home. Rainfall, thunder and lightning start. While Ahmet worrying about Hanzade, the messenger pigeon settled on his window. But there is not any letter attached the claw of the bird but wedding ring of Hanzade. Ahmet decides to go to the other coast of Bosporus as he realizes that there is a problem.
Actually the problem is big. Kara captures Hanzade in her grandfather’s house and killed the foreman of mansion. He tries to rape Hanzade. But she claims that her grandfather was almost dead. Therefore raping her was wrong while he was dying. If he waits for his death, she would do whatever he wants. So, Kara delays to rape her.
Ahmet runs to coast and tries to surpass the waves in a boat alone because no boatman accepted to take him to the other coast. But the waves throw him back to the coast. In his desperation, he thinks to fly to the other side. He shall fly to the other coast. He runs to the Tower. Hasan and Francesca who came back to Istanbul after a long term travel tries to turn him from this crazy idea. Ahmet believes his beloved woman is in trouble and he has to save her. He climbs to the Tower while gearing up the wings, he sees the soldiers of Palace approaching the tower. Pasha persuades Sultan that Ahmet is the messenger of Satan and if he flies from the tower, power of the Sultan will be shattered. If the people believe that there is a greater power than Sultan, they would give up religion and faith. Sultan Mourad is persuaded and ordered his men to stop him.
Ahmet is decisive to fly. He puts on the wings and runs around the terrace of the Tower then throw himself to the air. Soldiers of Kara are positioned under the Tower. They draw the bows and shoot arrows. However some arrows pierced Ahmet’s wings, he succeeds to fly and planed on the waters of Bosporus.
Grandfather of Hanzade gasps his life out. It is the time for pleasure for Kara. While Hanzade is resisting him they saw a big bird comes towards the mansion. Hanzade realizes that it is Ahmet while it comes closer. She catches Kara off guard and runs away from him then goes out from mansion and climbs to the roof. Ahmet draws on with his wings and descends. Kara takes out his sword. Hanzade slips while she tries to escape from him and falls down from the roof. Ahmet comes closer. When Kara puts up his sword Ahmet hits to his chest with his both feet by an awesome action. Kara falls down on garden wall then to the pier and to the sea by skipping in a water of blood inanimately. After Ahmet settled on the flat place behind the mansion, runs up Hanzade. Hanzade has fallen on the bushes in the garden and survives with light scrapes. The lovers hug each other.
On the last scene, Ahmet and Hasan come into Sultan’s presence. Sultan has learned everything that happened. He says to them: “You are the men whom people should be afraid of. Whatever you want to do, you can do. So, your survival is not permissible.” Then he banished them. While the soldiers roust them out they cannot separate the arms of Hanzade and Ahmet from each other. Thereupon, one of the soldiers lifts his sword to cut the arm of Ahmet. Camera rises while the sky is seen, the generic starts to flow.
We sum up what happened to our characters. Ahmet was exiled to Algeria with Hanzade. They had children but one of Ahmet’s arms is missing. Nevertheless he makes experiments on aviation with his children and students. The movie ends while narrating the things happened to the other characters.
